I recently found a manufacturer of ‘clone’ guitar and bass amp speakers. Warehouse Guitar Speakers builds Celestion (and other makes) knock-offs. There are many reviews of these speakers if you Google ‘clone speaker’ that heap tons of praise on them. They speakers were originally selling for $20 each! I’m going to try a Celestion Lead clone (80 watt classic) in my new extension cab. I’ll let you know how they sound…

Spider Valve Not Quite There Yet…
Posted in gear with tags gear on October 13, 2007 by Chris JohnsonI played the Spider Valve today at GC. I was expecting killer tone from the Bogner power section. What I heard was digital ice-pick harshness that is so common with modeling amps.
I’ve got an original POD (thanks Gilmo…) that I’ve updated to version 2.0 firmware which I love. I was hoping to get that POD 2 sound cranked from a great Bogner boutique style amp…Oh well.
As a side note, the Hughes and Kettner Switchblade comes closest to blending great digital effects with real tube amplified tone.
So far, the Boogie F-30 remains my main gigging amp. For a 30 watts, it’s just awesome. I’ve mounted an Amp Clamp on the bottom, and mic up my F-30 with a SM57 (of course…) So far I’ve held my own with every band and club to date, including some pretty big outdoors
